Greece Names George Houliarakis As Interim Finance Minister

ATHENS (MNI) - George Houliarakis will serve as interim Finance Minister as the country heads to snap elections next month, the government said Friday.

Houliarakis, Greece's outgoing chairman of the governmental Economic Experts, has been the country's representative to the EuroWorking Group, which prepares the agenda for the Eurozone Finance Ministers, and has also participated in Eurogroup meetings alongside outgoing Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos.

Houliarakis has also been heavily involved in Greece's negotiations with its creditors for the third lending agreement.

Other appointments announced Friday include: Petros Moliviatis, an experienced diplomat, as interim Foreign Minister; Antonis Manitakis the Interior Ministry and Nikos Christodoulakis as interim Economy Minister.

The caretaker cabinet will be sworn in at 12:00 CET and will hold its first cabinet meeting shortly after. The date of the elections will be officially announced by the Presidency later Friday.
