PARIS (MNI) - Former economy minister Emmanuel Macron has surpassed the far-right National Front leader Marine Le Pen in the first round of France's presidential election for the first time, a new opinion poll showed on Friday.

A poll by the Odoxa polling agency gave Macron 27% of the first-round vote compared with 25.5% for Le Pen and 19% for former prime minister Francois Fillon.

The Odoxa poll also projected that if Fillon withdraws from the race and is replaced by conservative Bordeaux major Alain Juppe, Juppe would take first place in the first round, with 26.5% of the vote, compared with 25% for Macron and with Le Pen being eliminated with 24%.
